Lake Forest, IL

This year I took my first ever trip anywhere on an airplane. I ended up in Chicago the second week of the coldest October they've ever had. Ever. So turns out the whole time I was there not only was it cold it was wet. Rain five days in a row. I got to ride both trains and see a lot of little parts of the city. The most interesting parts weren't in the city. i think driving around some of the suburbs and forest like highways is so different from the nothing thats out here in the west. Lake Forest was a town we drove through on the way to see Where The Wild Things Are and its also the town in which the beloved John Hughes resided in until his death this past August. I heard of his death in the months past and had not had a chance to register what an impact this person had on my love of movies and in turn my entire young adult life. I saw what a beautiful place Chicago is right away. I fell in love with the fact that everything I loved about the way it was portrayed in Hughes movies was that it wasn't really a portrayal. It was right there and it was really real. The fact that John Hughes just died not two months prior was definately apparent. Maybe it was the rain. I'm sure it was. It reflected the fact that movies like The Breakfast Club, Wierd Science, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Pretty In Pink, Sixteen Candles, and Some Kind Of Wonderful will never have another addition. The stories from the fictional Shermer Illinois have ended and all one can do is pay homage any way you can. Mine like many others I'm sure was hitting up a mall in the Mid-west and catching a flick. Wish I would have done it much much sooner. Made the trip, I mean. At least now I know a good place to die.

"Ferris Bueller You're my hero."

I Feel Fucking Dirty

I went to HS in Glendale, AZ. In 1995 the Dirty South was HOT. Atlanta houses BET and even if you weren't seeing anything like Goodie Mob or Outkast in any kind if rotation on MTV, you could see it on BET. MTV2 was also rocking videos pretty hard and I couldn't complain about not acctually getting BET in high school because I got MTV2 when not a lot of people did. My dad had invested in satelite technology when I think I was like Jr. High. Before that we didn't even have cable and the only MTV I knew was already like a bunch of Gameshows and the real world with the black guy and the cowboy. remember? well, since I only saw that shit at friends houses and not my own I didn't know what kinds of bullshit ass shows I was missing. I had IFC, Comedy Central, and MTV2 and some one of my best good friends at the time was from South Carolina. The Backwoods. I met this dude Josh while I had just finished school and he still had a year to finish I think. He had just moved back from living with his dad in SC. All I knew was that we skated, liked to drink 40's and smoke blunts. "let's smoke a blunt" that was like all he ever said. Oh yeah and "Am i drivin' good? I'm drivin' good, huh? Am I driving good?" Well needless to say we both liked The Whole Dungeon Family but the MOB stood out most and was bumped most to my recolection. We never called it cruising. We was lampin'. Our little crew stayed together as long as we could I guess. Good good times man. Luckily I have some of it captured on Video. We were not KIDs but we were such kid's(yo!). By the end of the 90's the Foo-Fighters was were Nirvana would have never been, Outkast was in Heavy Rotation on MTV and MTV2 was not comercial/vee-jay free no-longer. Talk about the good old days. Oh yeah M2, Comedy Central and IFC are all like on any basic cable package now. Go figure. That's why we are at a website though. Right? Peas out. Mork Style.
